(Poughkeepsie, NY) The Bardavon's Matinees & Music senior citizens program kicks into high gear on Thursday, November 19, 2pm when the Bardavon presents Big Band Tribute, an afternoon of the swinging sounds of Basie, Ellington, Miller, and Goodman. The program features The Tony Corbiscello Big Band in a swinging tribute to the music of the big band era. The performance culminates a six week school residency program with the Poughkeepsie High School Jazz Ensemble. Matinees & Music is made possible in part through the support of the Dutchess County Office of the Aging and Assemblymen Frank Skardatos, the Poughkeepsie City School District, and the Ann and Abe Effron Fund through the Community Foundation of Dutchess County.

Celebrating the eleventh straight year of the Bardavon Big Band residency program, The Poughkeepsie High Jazz Ensemble will join Tony Corbiscello's group in a swinging program with both bands engaged in a friendly yet explosive Battle of the Bands. Beginning several weeks ago and continuing through November 19, members of the Corbiscello band have guided musical master classes at Poughkeepsie High School.

Perennial favorites here at the Bardavon, The Tony Corbiscello Big Band has impressive credits that include extended stints at the Rainbow Room and The Supper Club in New York City. The band has toured with John Pizzarelli, Rosemary Clooney, Jerry Vale, Bob Hope, and was the opening act for Frank Sinatra on his 1993 world tour. The group has been described by critics as having a rich, full-bodied sound and a satisfying tonal richness.

This program is part of the Bardavon School Residency Program in which artists work with students from local schools and then perform together on the Bardavon stage. The Bardavon School Residency Program is a comprehensive in-school residency program, which will reach over 1000 students with esteem building artist residencies over the course of the 2009/10 season.
