LYLE LOVETT AND HIS LARGE BAND
at UPAC in Kingston

(Kingston, NY) The Bardavon is pleased to present a musical evening with Lyle Lovett and his Large Band on Sunday, November 15, 7pm at the Ulster Performing Arts Center (UPAC) in Kingston. The performance is sponsored by Rhinebeck Savings Bank and WDST.

Four-time Grammy winner, Lyle Lovett, is often described as a Country-Western musician, but his musical catalogue is far too diverse for one category. He began his musical career as a songwriter, back up singer, and guitarist. In 1975 at the age of 18, the native Texan enrolled at Texas A&M University and graduated seven years later with degrees in both German and Journalism. Lovett played music throughout college.

In 1984, Lovett recorded a four song demo and sang back up vocals on several other musicians' records and tours. In 1986, he released his self-titled debut album. Since then, he has recorded and released seven more albums. His 1989 album, Lyle Lovett and his Large Band won the 1989 Grammy for Best Male Vocalist. He has appeared in several films including Robert Altman's The Player and Pret-a-Porter; Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, and The Opposite of Sex. Lovett says he enjoys acting especially the collaborative nature of the movie-making mechanism. He likens it to work with his Large Band where his "biggest challenge is to make sure everyone on stage gets a featured spot."

In 1996, The Road to Ensenada received the Grammy for Best Country Album and brought Lovett's music to the attention of a much greater audience. His 2003 album, My Baby Don't Tolerate, reflects his usual jazz and western swing influences but also shows that he continues to switch artistic gears. Though Lovett's albums are often found in the country section, he has been bounding across genres for more than a decade. He maintains a country label because he holds onto the attributes of his past: ironic detachment, twisted humor, serious songwriting, and the capacity to jerk a tear or two.

His 2007 release, It's Not Big It's Large debuted and peaked at #2 on the Top Country Albums chart. A new studio album, Natural Forces, was released on October 20, 2009 by Lost Highway Records.
